Summary

Today, she hates him。

It’s the last day of senior year。 Rowan Roth and Neil McNair have been bitter rivals for all of high school, clashing on test scores, student council elections, and even gym class pull-up contests。 While Rowan, who secretly wants to write romance novels, is anxious about the future, she’d love to beat her infuriating nemesis one last time。

Tonight, she puts up with him。

When Neil is named valedictorian, Rowan has only one chance at victory: Howl, a senior class game that takes them all over Seattle, a farewell tour of the city she loves。 But after learning a group of seniors is out to get them, she and Neil reluctantly decide to team up until they’re the last players left—and then they’ll destroy each other。

As Rowan spends more time with Neil, she realizes he’s much more than the awkward linguistics nerd she’s sparred with for the past four years。 And, perhaps, this boy she claims to despise might actually be the boy of her dreams。

Tomorrow… maybe she’s already fallen for him。

The Hating Game meets Booksmart by way of Morgan Matson in this unforgettable romantic comedy about two rival overachievers whose relationship completely transforms over the course of twenty-four hours。

This was。。。so good???? Like, holy hell。 The cover was so plain that I just wasn't really sure what to expect (YES, I JUDGE BOOK BY THEIR COVERS。 SUE ME) but even if my expectations had been super high this would have exceeded them easily。 I mean, I loved the characters。 Loved them both so much。 Technically their romance didn't really hit the enemies-to-lovers trope I crave (it's rivals-to-lovers at best, and they don't really start from the level of animosity I want to see) but I honestly didn't This was。。。so good???? (Is that a word?) is the main focus。 And that's not a bad thing, obviously, but it's also nice to see it in books like this。 I mean, I often encounter diversity in romance and YA for things like sexuality and gender and race so it almost seems weird that it took this long to find one with a Jewish perspective。 The characters here provide some very thoughtful insight on being Jewish in America, on casual anti-Semitism and other things I never really thought about before。 It's eye-opening, and it adds a nice bit of depth to this thoroughly enjoyable romance。 。。。more

i love academic rivals to lovers in tv shows, but this was the first book i've read with this trope, and tbh i'm not that amazed。 everything was happening so fast - in span of 24 hours (yes it has throwbacks/retrospectives, but they were not enough for me)but it was not bad, far from that, they tease each other, challenge each other to be better and do better。what Neil wrote in Rowan's yearbook damn chills。。。Also, i found myself in so many little things。 - i'm a star wars fan as Neil, I am attra i love academic rivals to lovers in tv shows, but this was the first book i've read with this trope, and tbh i'm not that amazed。 everything was happening so fast - in span of 24 hours (yes it has throwbacks/retrospectives, but they were not enough for me)but it was not bad, far from that, they tease each other, challenge each other to be better and do better。what Neil wrote in Rowan's yearbook damn chills。。。Also, i found myself in so many little things。 - i'm a star wars fan as Neil, I am attracted freckles, i like to say “I’d hate to disrupt the balance of the universe。” and when i read this line in a book, word for word what i say often - it felt like i was in a simulation。 - Moreover, i love the quote in Latin on Neil's shirt: "quidquid latine dictum, altum videtur。" which means ‘anything sounds profound in Latin。’, love it because many people use Latin quotes in their insta bios just to seem cool and educated。 - aaaaand the Japanese word tsundoku: “It means acquiring more books than you could ever realistically read。 There’s no direct translation。” relatable。So, these two are passionate, very beautiful characters, and I love them, but it would have been better if they expressed their feelings a little sooner, but damn that's real life you need patience and timing。 。。。more

I absolutely loved this YA book! It checked off all the criteria。1。 School rivals with lots of chemistry2。 Competition with high stakes and a frenemy joint partnership3。 And awesome best friends cheering you on along the way!My high school self fell in love with Neil and his adorkableness。 This book was perfect for a younger me。 It's okay to be a nerd, perfectionist, or perfectly you however you are。It also was a great mental reset as well。 Don't forget to make time for your friends and family。 I absolutely loved this YA book! This was something new for me when the guy isn’t a bad boy or anything, this is also my first academic rivals to lovers and I was so disappointed, maybe it’s because I’m not used to books like this but normally when I read something new I love it。 I loved how it talked about stuff Jewish people have to go through it’s never recognised in books in general and normally overlooked I’m glad it talked abt it。 Characters:Loved all the characters except the main one I felt as if she was annoying at tim This was something new for me when the guy isn’t a bad boy or anything, this is also my first academic rivals to lovers and I was so disappointed, maybe it’s because I’m not used to books like this but normally when I read something new I love it。 I loved how it talked about stuff Jewish people have to go through it’s never recognised in books in general and normally overlooked I’m glad it talked abt it。 Characters:Loved all the characters except the main one I felt as if she was annoying at times she took thinks a bit far especially with Neils’ dad。 。。。more

I WANT MOREThis was impossibly satisfying for me to read。 I love the characters and their development。 They are adorable and so freaking in love。 The way this story unfold is perfect。 It takes place over the course of 24 hours, but still has so much packed into it。 AND IT IS MOST DEFINITELY NOT INSTA LOVE。 I really like Rowan。 She is an imperfect person but I still don’t find her annoying。 Neil is absolutely perfect。 A total cutie。I think this book did a phenomenal job of dissecting how misogyni I WANT MOREThis was impossibly satisfying for me to read。 I love the characters and their development。 They are adorable and so freaking in love。 The way this story unfold is perfect。 It takes place over the course of 24 hours, but still has so much packed into it。 AND IT IS MOST DEFINITELY NOT INSTA LOVE。 I really like Rowan。 She is an imperfect person but I still don’t find her annoying。 Neil is absolutely perfect。 A total cutie。I think this book did a phenomenal job of dissecting how misogynistic people are towards romance novels。 greeeaaat stuff。Definitely one of my favorite romance novels of the year。 。。。more

i really enjoyed this book, i didn't want to finish it at all。 I loved how the author made this book incredibly realistic and for me as reader, it was just so heartwarming to read about Neil and Rowan learning and growing together。I gave it 4 stars because the ending felt a little rushed, i would have liked to know what happened in summer or what happened in their graduation。 Other than that it was incredible !!!!!There was a lot of humour and i laughed, cried and i can't get over how heartwarmi i really enjoyed this book, i didn't want to finish it at all。 I loved how the author made this book incredibly realistic and for me as reader, it was just so heartwarming to read about Neil and Rowan learning and growing together。I gave it 4 stars because the ending felt a little rushed, i would have liked to know what happened in summer or what happened in their graduation。 Other than that it was incredible !!!!!There was a lot of humour and i laughed, cried and i can't get over how heartwarming it was。I felt like i could align myself with Rowan's character as i am coming to the end of my final year and i, too, had expectations for myself。 Even though i gave it 4 stars, this is definitely my favourite romance novel so far and i'm really sad to have finished it。 I'm looking forward to reading more by Rachel :)。 。。。more

“love isn’t immediate or automatic; it takes effort and time and patience。”— four and a half starsi really didn’t know if i was going to like this but i really did end up loving it。 the characterization, the setting, the pacing were all amazing and there’s nothing i world change。 when Solomon describes Seattle it’s like you can smell the petrichor and coffee with our characters and it was amazing。 i felt like rowan was an extremely relatable, real, and flawed character that was still incredibly “love isn’t immediate or automatic; it takes effort and time and patience。”— four and a half starsi really didn’t know if i was going to like this but i really did end up loving it。 the characterization, the setting, the pacing were all amazing and there’s nothing i world change。 when Solomon describes Seattle it’s like you can smell the petrichor and coffee with our characters and it was amazing。 i felt like rowan was an extremely relatable, real, and flawed character that was still incredibly enjoyable。 i loved how Solomon was able to talk about anti-semitism in an educating way, that didn’t fall flat, as it’s something jewish people, especially young jewish people still experience today。 my true and only con of the book is during some monologues about woman food and misogyny, it got cringy which i feel is a problem i’ve seen throughout the YA books i’ve read this year。 these authors are trying to educate teenagers but sometimes it just feels like an after-school special about double standards, there’s ways to have those conversations without it being, bad… it especially surprised me after the conversations about judaism, which didn’t ever get cringy in my opinion。 but that’s genuinely the only flaw in my opinion。 i do wish i got an epilogue but i understand the importance of not having one in this book (rowan and neil were just too cute)! 。。。more

It was an enjoyable enough book that captured the emotion and anxiety of closing one life chapter (graduating high school) and starting another (off to college)。 In some ways I related a lot to the protagonist (chronic overachiever), but I also found her to be offputting and self-sabotaging in some of her actions, which made me enjoy the book less。 Regardless, I hope they make it into a movie。。。I'd see it! It's been a long long while since I've finished a book in an entire sitting。 It's honestly been so long since I had time to read in the first place。 But I saw someone recommended this book on booktok & was like。。。 alright, here we go! Love-hate relationships are literally my crack so that's probably why I loved this so much。 But I'm serious I loved the relationship between Neil and Rowan。 I loved how throughout the book they really stayed themselves and continued to push each other to be better。 It's been a long long while since I've finished a book in an entire sitting。 It's honestly been so long since I had time to read in the first place。 But I saw someone recommended this book on booktok & was like。。。 alright, here we go! 4/5I loved the first half but the rest felt rushed and too unrealistic。 I couldn’t relate to the main character but I still think it’s a good book。 I was kinda disappointed but it’s fine。
